THE ROAD TO OHUM WATER FALLS

Its adventure time in the world of Discovery Africa! This time around we went to Enugu state in Eastern part of Nigeria to see and tell of the wonders of nature. Ohum water falls! you might have heard of it one time or the other or maybe not. Its a little bit more popular than the Ogbaukwu cave down in Owerre Ezukala, Anambra state which we went to and told you about sometime last year, but we are going to tell you about this place like you have never heard before.
Ninth mile, Enugu; a place known by virtually all, where the large coca cola distributing company situates - is the closest place one would call a 'city' to Ohum. Ninth mile is like an hour drive at most to the first gate in the Ohum monastery. Yeah, this place is owned by the Catholic church, don't know how and why. They use the ''Mount Calvary - as they call it to pray. So they are more or less the custodians of the Waterfall and mountain.
We passed the first, second and arrived the third gate with our vehicle. So our team did the necessary, got some guards and
literates to lead the way.
Off we go to the Waterfalls....
Would advice you to wear your boots because we kept on climbing hills and stomping when descending down one. We should know that Enugu state is a geographical location filled with hills, hence the name Enu ugwu - On top of hills.
The sweet sounds of signing birds filled the air with the calm breeze of nature, bringing together a harmonious feeling. Everything was just calm. We saw wonderful fruits, beautifully carved ant hills.
Oh! Mother nature!
How beautiful art thou!
As we were admiring this we noticed that legs began to hurt, traces of sweat were springing up from no where, we then realized we had been moving more or less hastily on foot for more than an hour. It seemed the journey was never coming to an end. The enthusiasm began to wither.
Oh! Is that water? The literate one among the guard said "yes, we are close". We started moving fast again with the sweet hope of finally seeing the water fall. The grounds became slipperier and slipperier as we advanced. We crossed a stream, which was to be the first among many. As of this time I started regretting wearing boots.
We got to a 'holy place' where the statue of the mother of Christ
was carved and by the side was a little cave, we had to remove our shoes and go on bare foot. Sobs! My feet still hurts. We had to climb over a tree trunk before entering the stream that was knee deep, be careful here. My phone even fell when I was struggling to hold myself cause the current of water became stronger.
Are those bats? The camera guy in our crew wasn't able to capture them they fluttered around making weird noise. I have to admit, I got a little scared here.
I still don't know if 'we are close' has another meaning because it took more than thirty minutes before... What's that horrid noise?
