THE AUNT GOES FIRST....

 The Bayankole tribe of Uganda is a minority tribe in Uganda, but believe me also has a very interesting though complicated marriage system. While in most tribes in Africa, the bride heavy laden with the burden of the marriage, in this particular tribe, the burden is on
the bride’s aunt. Funny enough, when a couple wants to get married in the Bayankole tribe, the aunt of the bride is obliged to have sex with the groom as a potency test and also has to test the bride’s virginity.

Okay, so my readers might wonder what kind of tribe this is, but in no degrading note, this custom has been accepted by the Banyankole tribe for quite a long time now. Same traditions of the tribe assert that the groom needs to be certified by the aunt which leaves me with the thought that what others see as ‘barbaric’ and when I mean others, I mean people of the West, the Bayankole tribe see as a tradition born of African nature not to be taken lightly. Some other traditions of the tribe also assert that the main duty of the aunt is to just watch and listen to the sexual intercourse between the groom and her niece.

 The fundamental question some moralist would ask is, Geez! Who does that? But the people of Bayankole see it as a paramount and a replica of what they term African tradition.

 To bring this to note is important, for if it hadn’t been research upon research, I probably wouldn’t have known that such a tradition existed. It is however difficult to put ourselves in the place of those young brides who have to swallow their pride and watch their aunt have sex with their husband but of cause it’s probably normal there!
