RUBY FALLS
Things to know about Ruby falls
Ruby falls is America's deepest commercial cave and the largest underground waterfall.
The cave which houses the Ruby falls was formed with the formation of lookout mountain.
Ruby falls cave had no natural
opening and could not be entered until the 20th century.
In 1905, the natural entrance to lookout mountain cave was closed during construction of a railway tunnel.
In the 1920s a chemist and a cave enthusiast named Leo Lambert thought of re-opening the cave as a tourist attraction and so formed a company to do so.
Leo Lambert had plans of making an opening further up the mountain than the original opening and transport tourists to the cave using an elevator.
In 1928, began the drilling through limestone, which led to the discovery of a small passageway about 18inches high and 4feet wide.
Exploring the opening, Lambert discovered the formerly hidden Ruby falls cave and its waterfall, and during his next visit to the cave, he went with his wife Ruby. He named the fall after his wife.
The Ruby fall is a beauty to behold, adorned with lightening bulbs of the changing colors which gives the waterfall a spectacular view.
