Igbo Lullaby
Do
you know that in the past there were songs which were used to put babies to
sleep unlike the use of modern toys which came up due to the so called civilization that sang to babies to keep them
entertained and lure them to sleep. Let’s take a look at some of these songs in
the local language.
ONYE
TIRI NWA N’ EBE AKWA.
Onye
tiri nwa n’ ebe akwa
Egbe
tiri nwa n’ ebe akwa
Weta
uziza weta ose
Weta
azu mangala
Ka
umu nnunnu racha ya
Ka
o kpo tutu kpogbuo ha
Egbe
ndo, nwa ndo.
NWA
NNUNNU NTA.
Nwa
nnunnu nta, nwa nnunnu nta, turu zam zam, turu zam
Gini
k’ ino ebe a eme, turu zam zam, turu zam
Ana
m aturu nne m ose, turu zam zam, turu zam
Tu
k’ ne ka isi atu, tuuuu, tuuuuuu.
KUO
RU NU NWA NGWERE AKA.
Kuo
ru nu nwa ngwere aka, kerenke
Nwa
ngwere ejeghi ije, ma ogbara oso, kerenke
Peee,
kerenke, hiiiha, kerenke, eeh eeh, kerenke.
Tufue
nu nwa mere aru
O
rue echi amuta ozo. Repeat.
These
are few I could come up with, hope I didn’t murder my language. These lullabies
always put babies to sleep especially when you back them and sing to them as
you walk around, they sleep off in seconds. You can try this older method if
the modern one isn’t working for you. I bet you, it works like magic.
