PUFF ADDER SOOTH SAYING - SANGOMA
Sooth saying,
the sublime art of predicting the future, is seen as an integral part of
African traditions; ranging from the Yoruba Babalawo, the Igbo Dibia and it
goes on and on.
There is just something astonishing here….
In Zulu
community of South Africa, they have a traditional Sooth Sayer and healer known
as sangomas. The Sangoma is known for forecasting the future and healing
rituals. The Sangoma uses his puff adder to predict the future, sometimes
placing it in his mouth or around the person seeking to know his future. Nobody
actually knows how they use the puff adder to predict the future, it is
something kept within themselves. Using he in this context to mean both male
and female because a woman can also be a Sangoma.
The Sangoma doesn't only use the puff adder you know.... |
Nowadays Sangomas
are still known as healers and people who predict the future but much mildly to
the time as of old. The South African Sangoma even tried predicting the just
concluded African Cup of Nations which a prominent Sangoma, Nozo Zintoyinto,
predicted almost all the matches correctly. Not just Paul the predicting
Octopus eeh?
In terms of healing they have even been
approved legally in some parts of South Africa, to give medical prescriptions
and solutions.
You see the
Sangomas are quite good and gaining wide recognition, why not try seeing your
future one day. Haha, I know what’s on your mind… Don’t be terrified, the puff
adder is totally under control!
