The African Lion
Only male lions boast mane, the impressive long hair that encircles their head. |
The male lions are responsible for defending their territory which can be up 100 square miles of grassland, with their intimidating looks they mark their territory with urine, roar menacingly to warn intruders and scare off animals. While the males are responsible for protecting their turf, the female are known for hunting. Both males and female work together to hunt down preys especially fast animals like zebra, antelope and other large animals. Though females are the primary hunters, team work is also encouraged.
After the hunt, the team effort always degenerates to squabbling over sharing of the kill. The cub are always at the bottom line of the sharing order. The young lion is not involved in the hunting exercise until it's a year old.
